First match announced for MCW’s Sixth Anniversary Extravaganza

Last week, we announced that we’d be holding the first ever Melbourne City Invitational Tournament across both nights of our Sixth Anniversary Extravaganza, taking place at the MCW Arena in Essendon on Friday October 7th, and Saturday October 8th. This week, we’ll be announcing all four qualifying matches, which will occur on the Friday night, and we’ve decided to kick things off with a huge announcement!

Off the back of our announcement regarding TMDK and the MCW Tag Team Championships, MCW Management have decided to enter Slex in the tournament, rather than have him sit on the bench. His opponent will be one of our featured international stars, as he will be going up against ‘The Villain’ Marty Scurll! Based in the United Kingdom, Scurll is having a banner 2016 worldwide, as he is currently holding the Progress Wrestling Championship for the second time. Last month, he won Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s annual Battle of Los Angeles tournament, which puts him in line for a shot at the PWG Championship as well, held by Zack Sabre Jr. His work has captured the eyes of many key players, including Paul Heyman, who was quick to personally hand him his business card at a Q&A event in the UK a couple of months ago, which would lead to further bookings with Pro Wrestling Evolve in the United States. Needless to say, when it comes to top line independent wrestlers anywhere in the world, Marty Scurll is one of the absolute best.

Slex meanwhile, is no stranger to the spotlight. In addition to being one half of the current MCW Tag Team Champions, he is a former MCW Heavyweight Champion as well. In 2013, he was invited to compete in Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan, where he would team with former PWG and Ring of Honor champion Roderick Strong, against the likes of KENTA (now Hideo Itami in NXT), the aforementioned Zack Sabre Jr, and the legendary Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger. Those accolades led him to a spot within The Mighty Don’t Kneel, and Slex was personally selected by Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls to join the team, prior to their departure for WWE NXT.

Suffice it to say, this will be a clash between two of the very best independent wrestlers that you’ll find anywhere in the world. And it will take place on Friday October 7th at the MCW Arena in Essendon. Tickets are currently available online (front row for both nights is already sold out), and will also be available at the door. With more match announcements coming your way real soon, we can safely say that this will be a double header weekend to remember.

In addition, meet and greet and training seminars with Marty Scurll are coming your way soon!
