Yesterday, we revealed that the first of four qualifying matches in the Melbourne City Invitational will see Slex face off with Marty Scurll, in a match that already has fans of independent wrestling all over Australia talking. We’re back to reveal the second of the four qualifying matches, all of which will take place on night one of MCW’s Sixth Anniversary Extravaganza, emanating from the MCW Arena in Essendon on Friday October 7.
We are pleased to reveal that for the first time ever, Adam Brooks and Lochy Hendricks will do battle as part of the tournament, in a match between two of MCW’s fastest rising competitors. Hendricks and Brooks are no strangers to one another, having previously been part of a massive tag team match at Final Battle in 2014 (available to watch on demand), resulting in Lochy Hendricks (along with TD) capturing his only Melbourne City Wrestling title to date, the MCW Tag Team Championships, ironically from Brooks and Dowie James, who still remain as the longest reigning MCW Tag Team Champions in history.
Since then, Lochy has been on a tear within Melbourne City Wrestling, earning the respect and adulation from not just the fans, but his peers as well. Most recently, KrackerJak was quick to praise Hendricks, following a violent tag team street fight against Preston & Payne. But none of that means anything to the notoriously brash and arrogant Brooks, who has spent most of 2016 either as the (now former) MCW Intercommonwealth Champion, or abroad in the United States, competing for promotions such as House of Hardcore, and against the likes of ROH & CZW breakout star, Lio Rush.
With the eyes of the independent wrestling world focusing on the Melbourne City Invitational, both men will be looking to ascend to the next level of singles competition within MCW, but only one will be successful. Tickets are on sale now for this event, and can either be purchased online or at the door on the night.
