Goliaths Collide at MCW Final Battle

A week ago, we announced a triple main event for our final event for 2016, MCW Final Battle, which takes place at the Thornbury Theatre in just under a fortnight on Friday December 2nd. We’re now ready to begin announcing some huge undercard matches for this event, with the first match announcement being a battle between two of the biggest men to ever step foot in Melbourne City Wrestling.

In August, we announced that former Olympian, Jake Andrewartha, had signed with Melbourne City Wrestling. A bronze medallist in the Commonwealth Games, and a finalist in the 2012 London Olympics, Andrewartha’s background was in judo, but he decided to retire from competition in order to pursue his dream of being a professional wrestler. As the first ever Olympic athlete to transfer to professional wrestling in Australia, it wasn’t long before Jake Andrewartha was targeted by one of the existing old guard within Melbourne City Wrestling – the former ‘Cousin’ Ali.

Along with Emanuelle, collectively known as The Estate, Ali is a former MCW Tag Team Champion. Following a string of losses with his Estate stablemate, Ali decided to strike out on his own, instilling a reign of terror which saw him come close to capturing the MCW Intercommonwealth Championship from the gargantuan Jonah Rock. When Jake Andrewartha announced his intentions on becoming a professional wrestler, it was Ali who warned him to stay out of his way, and to reconsider his new career path.

Since then, both men have been playing a game of “can you top this”, as they wreak havoc through the Melbourne City Wrestling roster, in order to try and intimidate one another. That brought about a heated confrontation at our last event, which saw security, officials and other wrestlers from the locker room struggle to separate Ali and Andrewartha, with the crowd chanting “let them fight” all the while.

Now, that demand has come true, as it will be Ali and Jake Andrewartha locking up in a battle of the goliaths, at MCW Final Battle! Tickets for this event will be able to be pre-purchased online for the next week, and we will also have tickets available at the venue on the night. Don’t miss out as we close out the year with one of our biggest events ever, as this is going to be a night that is set to shape the new year ahead!
