The fallout from our massive December event, MCW Final Battle (available to rent or download via MCW Encore, and coming soon to DVD), will continue at MCW Vendetta, which takes place THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, January 14th, at the MCW Arena in Essendon.
First off, we’re excited to announce that the rivalry between Ali and former Australian Olympian Jake Andrewartha will continue, but this time, the stakes will be raised tenfold, as both men will be meeting in a triple threat match, along with the new MCW Intercommonwealth Champion, JXT! Furthermore, this bout will be for JXT’s Intercommonwealth Championship!
At Final Battle, Jake Andrewartha was put to the test like never before against Ali, but would ultimately walk out as the winner, after Ali passed out in a submission hold. That said, Ali was never pinned, nor did he properly submit, a fact that he brought up with MCW Management following the bout. Meanwhile, JXT would beat his good friend (and former co-holder of the MCW Tag Team Championships), Mr Juicy, in order to capture his first singles championship with Melbourne City Wrestling.
JXT has had many struggles throughout his Melbourne City Wrestling career. Often, he has come up short in big match situations, but all of those past transgressions were put to rest when he captured the MCW Intercommonwealth Championship. But with such a win comes new challenges, and given the size and strength of his two opponents in this triple threat match, could his MCW Intercommonwealth Championship reign be over just as soon as it began?
In addition to the matches already signed for MCW Vendetta, we will also hear from the new MCW Heavyweight Champion, Dowie James, as he makes his first appearance following his spectacular championship victory at MCW Final Battle. The path to the gold was long and arduous for Dowie James, with the bout being his first championship match in the six years that he has been a member of the Melbourne City Wrestling roster, but he was able to end the longest MCW Heavyweight Championship reign in our history, when he pinned Elliot Sexton to lift the title.
What will Dowie have to say regarding the next stage of his career, now that he holds the most prestigious championship title in the country?
With one championship already being defended at MCW Vendetta, we will also witness a number one contendership match for the MCW Tag Team Championships, which were captured from the clutches of TMDK by Preston & Payne.
On January 14th, two of the most entertaining teams in Melbourne City Wrestling will do battle for the first time ever, as KrackerJak and Lochy Hendricks, aka The Worlds Friendliest Bastards, do battle against Vance Adams and Campbell Crawford, collectively known as Man United.
Man United have been in somewhat of a slump the past few months, while KrackerJak and Lochy Hendricks have recently been going from strength to strength, since their defeat last September, which ironically came at the hands of the current MCW Tag Team Champions. With the first shot at the new champions on the line, will Man United get back on the winning track? Or will KrackerJak and Lochy Hendricks get the chance to avenge their only outstanding loss as a tandem, against Preston & Payne?
And finally, we will see the return of two members of the MCW roster, as Fun Time Phil does battle against ‘Good Time Trouble’ Mike Burr. The past year has been a mixed bag for both these wrestlers – Phil has managed to work his way back into the Melbourne City Wrestling ranks, thanks to a YouTube series which would eventually see him defeat Josh ‘The Axe’ Shooter at MCW Collision Course last November (available on MCW Encore).
Meanwhile, Mike Burr wrestled in several high profile bouts throughout 2016, though unfortunately, he came up short in many of them, despite being one of the more technically sound members of the MCW roster. We know that Burr has a mean streak, as evidenced through his days as one half of the former MCW Tag Team Champions, Hard Way Inc, so will that come into play at MCW Vendetta? Or for the second time in his career, are the Fun Times set to continue rolling on for Phil?
Online ticket pre-sales for MCW Vendetta have now closed, but tickets can be purchased on the night at the venue. We look forward to seeing all of you at the MCW Arena in Essendon, as we kick off the new year, and gear up for what is set to be Melbourne City Wrestling’s biggest year to date!
