At our last event, MCW Ascension (check out the YouTube recap here), it was announced that the Vera & Jenny Memorial Cup would be resurrected for the second time in company history, with two qualifying bouts taking place at MCW Tensions Rising on Saturday March 11, followed by a match between the winners of those two matches taking place at MCW Clash of the Titans, which takes place at the Thornbury Theatre on Friday April 28.
The cup is named after two members of the extended MCW family, and was previously presented at the MCW Fight For A Cause event in November 2014, at a charity event for Breast Cancer Network Australia, with KC Cassidy (now Peyton Royce in WWE) being the inaugural winner of the tournament and the trophy. That event can be seen here on MCW Encore, and will also be available as part of our new subscription service, which is due to launch in the coming months.
Immediately, Kelly Anne made it known that she would be entering the tournament, claiming that she would win the Vera & Jenny Cup and thereby cementing her status as the top female wrestler in Australia. However, her boasts would seem to be well and truly premature, as the other three competitors in this tournament are either at the top of their game, or rapidly making names for themselves in Australian independent wrestling.
The two matches taking place this Saturday night at the MCW Arena in Essendon will see Kelly Anne facing Jessica Troy, in a rematch of their fantastic bout at MCW Vendetta in January, and Avary going head to head against one of the biggest names anywhere in the world in womens wrestling, Evie.
The winners of these two bouts will meet at MCW Clash of the Titans at the Thornbury Theatre on Friday April 28th. Online pre-sales for MCW Tensions Rising have now finished, but tickets can be purchased here for Clash of the Titans.
Needless to say, we’re excited to see what takes place in the MCW Womens Division over the next couple of events. Our womens division has been built over the last couple of years as being one of the best anywhere in independent wrestling, and we look forward to continuing to build upon that reputation this Saturday night.
