Melbourne City Wrestling was established in October 2010, as the successor to the previously named ‘Australian Championship Wrestling’, which has ties dating back to the golden age of professional wrestling in the 1960′s and 70′s at Festival Hall, when names like Mario Milano would frequently wow crowds of all ages.
We host monthly events on the second Saturday of every month at the Essendon Ukrainian Hall, fondly dubbed the MCW Arena. We also hold super card events within the grand ballroom at the Thornbury Theatre every few months. Both venues are within 15 minutes drive of Melbourne’s CBD.
In addition to our regular events, we have operated a series of special events, and provided our services (ranging from wrestling ring hire to a complete event) for a number of clients, including the Big Day Out and Future Music Festivals. We are able to cater our unique product to a wide variety of corporate functions and special events. In the past, we have also run fundraisers for the ‘Epilepsy Foundation’, ‘Breast Cancer Network Australia’, and ‘Relay For Life’.
We have a loyal following of fans, from all walks of life, and our fan base is constantly expanding in numbers. Our social media presence is strong, with a Facebook following of well over 7200 fans, with over 3000 fans following the official Melbourne City Wrestling Twitter page.
In 2017, we launched an online subscription service, MCW Encore, which includes a back catalogue of all of our past events, and we have professional wrestling fans from all over the world who have signed up to be a part of this service. We also launched a podcast, MCW Rewind, which is dedicated to talking about upcoming and past shows, featuring interviews with talent. Notable interviewees in 2017 include Kazuchika Okada, Bad Luck Fale and Toni Storm. Also in 2017, we launched a membership program designed to reward loyal fans, which sold out within 45 minutes of being available.
Our roster includes a mixture of both the best talent from around Victoria, and top quality professional wrestlers from around Australia, many of whom have had international experience. Notable MCW alumni include the former MCW Champion Matt Silva (now competing as ‘Buddy Murphy’ on WWE), Tenille Dashwood (formerly known as ‘Emma’ in WWE), KC Cassidy (now competing as ‘Peyton Royce’ on WWE) and Evie (now completing as ‘Dakota Kai’ on WWE), and Ryan Rollins (now competing as ‘Australian Suicide’ for the AAA professional wrestling promotion in Mexico).
We’ve been fortunate to feature a number of incredible and acclaimed wrestlers.
